Apple launches support Twitter account

Joe Rossignol for MacRumors:

Apple today created an official Twitter support account to provide customers with tips, tricks, and customer service regarding the company's product and services. One of the account's first tweets shares step-by-step instructions on how to turn lists into checklists in the stock Notes app on iPhone.

Basically under Jobs Apple kept its distance from social media. iTunes got a marketing presence , but that was kind of it. Now prominent Apple executives are active, including Tim Cook.

Using social media for customer relations tends to give people a more direct feeling to companies. Even if the account is generic, usually I think people still connect better to something like a Twitter account than an support email address, CRM web form, or support forum.
