Bank of America: 3G in June?


Quoting Bank of American analyst Scott Craig, Tom's Guide says that the 3G version will probably be announced next quarter.

"Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after an initial small build in May," said Craig.

Although it seems a likely candidate for a misprint, Craig is indirectly quoted as saying Apple will build 11-million 3G handsets between May and the end of September.

In related news, there are conflicting claims that Hon Hai has won (Fortune) 3G iPhone orders and that negotiations have yet to conclude (Washington Post).

Perhaps most telling of all are the mumblings of Gartner's Bob Hafner (Washington Post)--Ken Dulaney's boss--who says that earlier statements by Dulaney ("This is an order placed at the factory, a commitment to the manufacturer.") had been "misinterpreted.

"[W]e have not got confirmation that an order had been placed," demurred Hafner.

Whether it came from Apple or through an intermediary, that boys and girls was the sound of a smack down...
