We might soon be able to hide stock iOS apps

Benjamin Mayo for 9 to 5 Mac:

In a future OS release (iOS 10?), this discovery suggests that at least some stock Apple apps will be hideable in some way. Perhaps core features like the Phone or Messages app will remain mandatory, but presumably apps like Compass or Calculator would be user removable. Tim Cook hinted at something like this in an interview with Buzzfeed back in September.

Like many, I just bury these apps somewhere in a folder. This isn't really a big deal to me since majority of apps I use are on page one or two of my screen and everything else I just bring up via Spotlight. The Tips app is completely out of sight, out of mind.

The standard apps are a popular complaint, but I get some of it. Game Center, for example, I don't use, but it ties into stuff, so it can't really be gone. In that regard hiding may make more sense than just deleting.

Apple Watch though to me is a weird one to make everyone have on their device regardless if they actually owned a Watch. That felt more of a marketing decision.
