Apple's car project reportedly hits rough patch

Sam Oliver for Apple Insider:

The change was precipitated by a post-holiday progress review conducted by Apple design chief Jony Ive, according to a previously reliable source with knowledge of the team's activities. Ive is said to have "expressed his displeasure" with the group's headway.

I'm not sure what to make of Apple's vehicle rumors. I think Apple has been best when bringing its computer platform to new markets such as the iPod, iPhone, Apple TV, and Apple Watch. Essentially turning conventional consumer electronics gear into computers. A car seems a major leap, not to mention a sizable overhead for R&D, regulatory oversight, and product liability.

On the flip side, it makes total sense for Apple to be the brain of a smart car. It's unclear though if Apple can play nice with others manufacturers or if it has to do the whole widget to get there.
