The Wall Street Journal is reporting the iPhone X supply issues may be exasperated by limited component supplies. The Face ID feature reportedly utilizes two sensor modules for projecting infrared dots and then a module to read those dots.
The modules are known internally as Romeo and Juliet at Apple. Reported the modules that projects the dots (Romeo) is in short supply with production issues. Without the components, the iPhone X production is held up.
It seems likely the iPhone X will be in high demand despite introducing new ultra-premium pricing. The phone's specs match many of the features of the iPhone 8 Plus, however, it sleek edge-to-edge OLED design is the first major redesign since the iPhone 6 Plus in 2014.
