EFiX USA to ship 'OS X ready' system

AppleInsider reports that EFiX USA, which makes a USB dongle that allows installation of OS X on generic PC hardware, is readying the release of a $1,899 system--the Millennium 4-- that will deliver 85 to 90 percent of the performance of a Mac Pro for less than half the cost. Customers must purchase a dongle, as well, raising the price before tax to about $2,100.

"Of those [desktop buyers], I think there are a fair amount of them that would like something faster," an EFi-X spokesman said. "Most people that are new to the Mac buy an iMac or a laptop. [But] Mac people want easy."

Further, as the name implies, the Millennium 4 includes four cores, but the company says that eight, 16 and 24-core models could be available for sale in as few as 60 days.

AppleInsider reports that product and purchasing information will be posted to the EFiX USA site on Monday, Dec 15. As of this writing, there's no information about the Millennium 4 on the EFiX USA website.

The Antec P180 case is purportedly the enclosure that the Millennium 4 will be based on.

Editor's note: $2,100 seems a bit steep given that ClubMac and MacMall sell the Mac Pro for just under $2,100 and also tack on a free printer, Parallels, shipping and no sales tax.

Assuming the above information is correct, EFiX might want to adjust its pricing by a couple hundred...
