Bloomberg reports that Apple is hiring Joel Podolny, the dean of Yale University's business school, to start a project that it calls Apple University. "I obviously wish that the call from Apple had come later in my tenure, but we can't always control the timing around such things," Podolny wrote in a message to colleagues. "I am excited to know that I will be joining an organization for which I have so much respect and enthusiasm." Under Podolny, applications to Yale's MBA program climbed 50% over the past five years, according to a letter from Yale president Richard Levin (see also Yale Daily News). Many large corporations, such as McDonalds, have university programs that train, as well as inculcate employees in the practices and culture of the company.
