3G iPhone will soon outsell original

TechCrunch predicts that Apple will sell its 12-millionth iPhone sometime this week, meaning that the 3G version of the device will soon outnumber its 2.5G cousin.

Whereas it took Apple 74 days to sell 1-million original iPhones and nearly a year to sell 6-million, the company seems set to an equal number of the 3G iteration in about seven weeks, according to Tech Crunch.

Earlier this month, IGM reported a rumor that Apple iPhone OEM Foxconn (Hon Hai) is producing 800,000 handsets per week--an annual rate of 40-million. BusinessWeek reports the production rate could be as high as 150,000 per day, which could yield (x 365) as many as 154,750,000 3G iPhones in a year.
