Fortune: $330m 3G iPhone profit
July 16th 2008
Fortune claims that the 3G iPhone's first three days, which saw the sale of one-million handsets around the world, generated profits of $330,669,000.
According to Fortune, this is how it breaks down:
• 333,333 8GB iPhones @ $274.67 profit each = $91,556,000
• 666,666 16GB iPhones @ $358.67 each = $239,113,000
• Total profit to Apple: $330,669,000.
Of course, there are other costs Apple incurred that aren't accounted for including software development, shipping and distribution, packaging and miscellaneous accessories included with each phone, as well as sales and marketing costs.
Editor's note: With the original iPhone, the 8GB model outsold the 4GB by a wide margin and the latter was quickly discontinued.
