99¢ Movie: 'House of Games'
June 10th 2008
House of Games, the iTunes 99¢ Movie of the Week:
"What's more fun than human nature?" Joe Mantegna's Mike snarls cynically. And, what makes for better drama? Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Mamet's directorial debut features his trademark staccato, stylized dialogue, a sleight of hand plot that's anything but slight, and a surface story that provides a fascinating glimpse into the old con game.
The corkscrewing plot is not just deeply intelligent, but it's deeply rooted in the psychology of its characters, as well. Mike and Margaret appear to be two sides of one coin. But in a movie that revels in its bottomless levels of deception, can we really expect anything to be what it appears?
