John Gruber (Daring Fireball), continuing his quest to flesh out recent .Mac transmogrification rumors, did a little DNS digging and found some interesting stuff: “me.com” is currently a placeholder page hosted by MarkMonitor, a company that specializes in brand-related DNS management. Apple uses MarkMonitor for most of its domains, including “apple.com”, and it’s where they’ve parked domains for future use previously. “mobileme.com” is parked at MarkMonitor, too, but “me.com” is a bit punchier, no? [...] Update: Via Clint Ecker on Twitter, the name server for me.com changed hands today. That's certainly interesting and something's definitely happening. So, has he nailed it with me.com or is something else entirely going on here? Apple's certainly capable (and willing) to muddy the waters with a little skulduggery... What's your take? No DRM, No Restrictions, No Problem!
