AT&T cancels vacations over 'event'

Electronista reports that AT&T is telling employees they can't schedule vacation between June 15 and July 12 due to an "exciting special promotional event."

It has been stated by various sources that the 3G iPhone will be announced by Steve Jobs at this year's Worldwide Developers Conference, which is scheduled for June 9 through the 13th.

Electronista notes that Research in Motion's BlackBerry 9000, considered the next-closest device to justify a high-profile launch, is unlikely as multiple reports have reported the 3G smartphone being delayed to July due to technical glitches that have since been resolved.

Editor's note: So, affected AT&T employees will be working Sunday and Monday (June 15, 16) to prep for the beginning of sales on Tuesday, June 17? Or, will they be training Sunday through Thursday for a Friday event?

Whatever the case, the second coming is at hand...
