iPhone in Oz confirmed [again]

Quoting an unnamed "industry insider," ZDNet (Oz) claims that it has confirmed that the iPhone will indeed go on sale in Australia in the last week of June. Moreover, wireless carrier Optus will be the lead, but only one of several service providers.

Optus plans to make the announcement mid-May ahead of Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference on June 9 in San Francisco where Apple CEO Steve Jobs is tipped to launch the next generation of iPhone.
While this source could not confirm a 3G version of the popular handset, they did suggest that Optus was expecting the upgraded models.

It has been known for some time that the iPhone would go multi-vendor down under.

What isn't known, however, is whether or not an EDGE-enabled iPhone will go on sale in Oz where Telstra is the only network provider.

Editor's note: Does anyone want an EDGE iPhone in Oz? Bluesy, ya still out there?
