Another day, another 'music store'

Quoting CEO Rolf Schmidt-Holtz, Thomson Financial (CNN) reports that Sony BMG wants to launch a subscription music plan to give clients unlimited access to its catalog and, thereupon, collect fees forever.

"We are working on an online music subscription service," said Schmidt-Holtz. "The simplest option would be a flat rate under which a monthly payment would provide access to our entire music catalogue for all digital players, including Apple's iPod.

"It is even possible that clients could conserve some songs indefinitely, that they would own them even after the subscription expired," he continued.

A typical subscription fee would €6 to €8 (US $9 to $12)

Editor's note: Yet, again, pay forever music. The twist this time seems to be that it would be DRM-free (ie plays on the iPod).

Is that enough to make a difference?
