Firefox 3: Big JavaScript boost

For those of you following along at home, Firefox 3 beta 4 has been frozen and could see the light of day in one to two weeks.

The really interesting about this soon-to-be release is that Mozilla's adding lots o' tasty performance improvement, including JavaScript.

CyberNet News has published SunSpider JavaScript Benchmarks comparing Firefox 3 beta 4 to other current browsers:

Apple Store

01. Firefox 3 Nightly (PGO Optimized): 7263.8ms
02. Firefox 3 Nightly (02/25/2008 build): 8219.4ms
03. Opera 9.5.9807 Beta: 10824.0ms
04. Firefox 3 Beta 3: 16080.6ms
05. Safari 3.0.4 Beta: 18012.6ms
06. Firefox 2.0.0.12: 29376.4ms
07. Internet Explorer 7: 72375.0ms

For the rest of us, especially those who prefer Firefox, this is good news. Then again, Safari 3.1 is also expecting a JavaScript performance boost--up 2.5X.

I love competition...
