Yahoo looks to AOL

Times (UK) Yahoo is seeking to restart merger talks with AOL as a means of defending itself against a $45-billion hostile bid approach Microsoft.

Yahoo and advisors from Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers spent the weekend evaluating the company's options.

Yahoo and AOL previously failed to join forces because of differences over price, though Redmond's unwelcome advances and an impending economic downturn could infuse any discussions with new vigor.

It's expected that Yahoo head hancho and co-founder Jerry Yang will announce rejection of Microsoft's bid--they're holding out for at least $12 billion more.
