Microsoft wants to buy Yahoo


Reuters reports that Microsoft has made an unsolicited bid of $44.6 billion for Yahoo.

Yahoo said in a statement that its board would evaluate the proposal "carefully and promptly in the context of Yahoo's strategic plans and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders."

On Tuesday, a federal judge extended oversight of Microsoft's monopoly practices.

Editor's note: Yahoo needs saving, but one hopes the feds will block any move that would give Redmond that level of control over the internet. Then again, Yahoo might turn out to be the next Netscape...
