Asus expands Eee line
January 30th 2008
DigiTimes is reporting that Asus has introduced a whole family of products based on its wildly popular, low-cost, LInux-based Eee PC subnotebook, including an all-in-one computer designed to compete with Apple's iMac and Dell's XPS One.
Here's the skinny:
• E-DT, a desktop PC (Intel 945GC) sans monitor, $199
• E-Monitor, a 19-to-21 all-in-one, $499
• E-TV, 42-inch LCD TV, TBA
None of these products is available today.
Editor's note: Taiwanese companies love to pre-announce products in order to gauge focus / demand and pre-empt competitors. Also, successful, own-brand follow up products aren't exactly Taiwanese OEMs greatest strength. That they've already broken their marketing (ie not using "Eee") is a pretty good indication of Asus' lack of savvy.
Nevertheless, a low-cost all-in-one that can run OS X (with proper persuasion) is a tantalizing prospect. All the more so if it offered expandability...
