AT&T to offer 'no-commitment' plans [updated]

Gizmodo is running a picture and a piece that it says details a "no-commitment" option for its cell customers.

Here's the part that matters:

Great News! The No-Commitment option is now available for customers on all rate plans (postpaid) in OPUS and PDC. This means that customers no longer have to sign a 1 year or 2 year contract in order to take advantage of desired rate plans and features. They can now select No Commitment, no matter which rate plan they select.

But, although the iPhone isn't explicitly named one way or another on the AT&T document pictured (dated November 2007), an AT&T wonk has said Apple's zeitgeist-defining handset won't be set free.

In related news, AT&T has announced that revenues doubled and profits are up by 16.4 percent as company added a record number of new subscribers.

Previously, AT&T has said that the iPhone has attracted a unusually large number of new subscribers.

Editor's note: Perhaps iPhone users are just too valuable to set free...
