ModBook finally arriving?

By

At last year's Macworld, the ModBook, a third-party tablet conversion of the Apple MacBook, was named best-of-show. Now, on the eve of MWSF '08, it appears this heralded product may finally be ready to ship.

Today, blogger jkOnTheRun has posted a quote of an email from OWC, the device's exclusive distributor:

Thank you for your patience regarding your order for the Modbook OS X Tablet Solution. This e-mail is to inform you that the product is nearly
ready to ship and that new configuration options are now available. As
of the latest available information from Axiotron, we anticipate being
able to ship your Custom configured Modbook solution on or before
January 11th, 2008. On a first in, first out basis—Modbooks are
expected to begin shipping on or before January 8th, 2007.

Made by Axiotron, the ModBook (OWC) is available in 2GHz and 2.2GHz (MacBook) flavors, with these added features:

AnyView 13.3" Wide Screen
ForceGlass™ Screen & Camera Cover
WACOM Penabled® Digitizer
512 Levels of Pressure Sensitivity
Axiotron Digitizer Pen
WAAS-enabled GPS Built-In

The ModBook is priced at $2,279 and $2,479, respectively.

Touch comes to iPod. Introducing iPod touch.
