T-Mobile changes its tune

Bloomberg reports that T-Mobile (Germany) has said it will offer an unlocked version of the iPhone. Naturally, the key issue is price and its egregious--€999 ($1,477)--about $600 more than Apple makes from a US contract.

"How many people are going to spend 999 euros for a phone?" said Carolina Milanesi, research director, Gartner (London). "People are not used to spending that kind of money. In every single country now, people are going to look at the possibility of getting around the exclusivity issue."

T-Mobile moved to offer the iPhone sans contract after a German court, prompted by a Vodafone lawsuit, imposed an injunction stopping sales of the zeitgeist-defining handset.

Vodafone has yet to comment on this latest move by T-Mobile.

Editor's note: That's just evil. Is anyone at Apple really listening to how this is playing out?

This will only spur the "unauthorized" unlockers...
