Apple's Sept 5 announcements

As expected, Apple has announced a range of new iPods, as well as a pair of new marketing initiatives designed to make iTunes even more ubiquitous.

Here's a listing of Apple press releases from earlier today:

Apple Introduces All New iPod nano
Apple Introduces New iPod classic
Apple Unveils iPod touch
Apple Unveils the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store
Apple and Starbucks Announce Music Partnership
Apple Sets iPhone Price at $399 for this Holiday Season

Today's announcements include much that we all were expecting. However, Apple did offer a few surprises including the wi-fi retail initiative and, perhaps best of all, a very healthy price reduction for the iPhone to $399 for the 8GB model [Ed--Whither the iPhone nano?].

"The surveys are in and iPhone customer satisfaction scores are higher than we've ever seen for any Apple product," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We've clearly got a breakthrough product and we want to make it affordable for even more customers as we enter this holiday season."

Any of these announcements can be viewed as significant. However, when viewed together with Apple's recent Mac mini, iMac, .Mac and iApp product upgrades, it becomes apparent that the mothership is not only the leading Web 2.0 innovator, but also prima facia owner of the next-generation internet.
