Online Mac market share continues rise

Current statistics published by web-metrics company Net Applications show that the Mac's share of online users continues to rise rapidly. With 3.95 percent of surfers running OS X PPC and 2.51 percent on OS X Intel, nearly 6.5 percent of those measured prefer the fairer platform.

Last month, some 6.21 percent of those measured were running a flavor of the Mac OS.

As has been the case for many months, Apple's Safari in the third-most-popular browser--its current share is 4.82 percent compared to last-month's 4.58 percent.

In contrast to the prevailing trend of recent months years, the number of people using Mozilla's Firefox (14.54 vs 15.42) has fallen and Internet Explorer's share (78.67 vs 78.03) is on the up.

Editor's note: With fresh hardware out and more on the way, as well as the iPhone and a new OS waiting in the wings, is there anything but upside for Apple in the months head?
