Ars: DRM-free still on track for May

Ars Technica reports that Apple / EMI are working hard to deliver DRM-free tracks by the end of May. The duo promised that the higher-quality and more expensive music would be available (by the end of) this month.

Well, if you've been waiting for the DRM-free tracks, you're in luck, because apparently Apple can and will deliver them by the end of May ... In fact, the entire EMI catalog (except the Beatles) will be offered at the same time, in 256Kbps AAC format, and without FairPlay DRM.

Apple's drive to convince labels to offer DRM-free music began with Steve Jobs' open letter, Thoughts On Music, to said parties back in April. At the time, many panned the plan for being disingenuous and impractical.
