Apple Doubles Market Share in South Africa

Apple is going gangbusters in South Africa, having doubled its market share inside 24 months, from 3% to 6%, Moneyweb reports.

iPod also has 70% of the South African market. But Mac sales growth has been most impressive. Apple doubled its year-over-year market share in 2004/05 and in 2005/06. Before 2004, Apple market share languished at 2% in South Africa.

Simplicity and slick design seem to be the key to the Mac's success in this market. Apple RSA says that it's more than these factors though; a virus-free environment and no compatibility problems with the major software suites, such as Microsoft Office, are also major plusses. OS X, Apple says, is also a main reason for the switch, offering features that Vista has only now incorporated into Windows.
