33% of US Teens Own iPods

c|net News reports that American teenagers spend up to 72 hours per week using media, including cell phones, MP3 players, TVs and video games, according to the Harrison Group's Teen Trend Survey 2006.

One of the most popular devices among kids aged 13-18 is - unsurprisingly - Apple's iPod. 33% of teens surveyed said they owned an iPod. Given that there are over 25 million people in this age group in the US, this means about 8.5 million iPods are in teens' hands, a rise of 1% over 2003.

This demographic also has a high disposable income, according to the survey, spending some $195 billion on clothes, cars, cell phones and other consumer goods.

Other interesting 'facts' include: love of music is high amongst this group - second only to love of friends and higher than love of family. Apparently.

Analysis: OK, time for some Sociology 101: If you're in this age group or you know people who are, how accurate does this survey sound? Are 13-18s spending that much time with media? That much money on consumer goods? Earned money, begged or borrowed? And, finally, do you really love your music more than your family?
