Earlier today Apple began spinning the "new" iMac G5. This product is said to feature improvements over the company's earlier prosumer desktops: Integrated iSight video camera Front Row technology Thinner design A very "shufflle-esque" remote Slightly faster processors Dual-layer SuperDrive DDR2 memory Bundled Mighty Mouse Tweaked pricing at $1,300, $1,700 The new iMac G5 debuts our amazing Front Row media experience, and we think users are going to love it, said His Steveness. Plus, the built-in iSight video camera delivers out-of-the-box video conferencing with friends and family, as well as hours of fun with our new Photo Booth application. Less was more... Tellingly, perhaps, is a comparison in the press release made by Apple with Microsoft's Media Center. Worse is the fact that DDR2 has appeared first in a prosumer product and not the pro, which increasingly seems like an afterthought to the folks in Cupertino. The words best suited to describe the "new" iMacs are "featuring stuffing"... What's your take?
