Not for the first time, not for the last, Apple CEO Steve Jobs has taken a pop at Microsoft's long-delayed Longhorn Windows OS, still around 18 months away. Speaking at Apple's Annual General Meeting, Jobs reportedly said, 'They are shamelessly copying us," PC Pro reports him as saying. "They can't even copy fast." Not to be outdone, PC Pro quotes Jim Allching, MS's Windows boss, who said last week that Apple was copying Microsoft, implying that Longhorn, first demoed in 2003, was ahead of Tiger, OS X 10.4, which was first shown publicly in 2004. 'Tiger is nice in that they've put search capability in a lot of places, but there's a lot more in Longhorn', the article quotes Allching as saying. In related news, the AGM was a lay-down misere for Jobs & Co, with the board re-elected, and the company's plans backed by a majority of shareholders. The modified employees' stock option plan was also ratified by shareholders. Analysis: Mr Allching is certainly All Chin. Doesn't he recall OS X came out in 2001? And those of us with memories slightly longer than yesterday, will recall the release of XP. The most indignant thing Mac users said? "They even stole the duck!" Of course, Longhorn does have "more" search options than Tiger. It'll search your pants, find your wallet, search that, find credit card details, and send them to Redmond to pay for that next 'upgrade'.
