i3: User interface for your 'carputer'

The intrinsic mobility of the Mac mini has inspired users to install Apple's micro wonder in their autos (ClassicAutos, Matt Turner). Nevertheless, however wonderful OS X' user interface is when rooted, it's not particularly well-suited for computing on the go.

Enter i3 and their first-to-market, car-optimized interface for the Mac:

Ever wished you could have a Mac in your car? We did, so we got to work and installed a mac in the car. We soon found out that the beautiful interface of Mac OS X was not the ideal solution for the car environment. Dragging a mouse about was simply too time consuming and extremely dangerous if done while driving. "Wouldn't it be great if we had an interface to get things working instead of having to double click all over the place?" we asked ourselves. Well, we got to work again and i3 was born.

i3's spin states that its UI is 90-percent customizable, and that users can assign applications to buttons and even skin the environment. A free and fully-functional demo of i3 is available here, a full license sells for $25.

Editor's note: Sweet, definitely sweet. And, the timing couldn't be better.
