Apple targets iTMS prepaid cards

PlaylistMag.com reports from the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival that Apple has used the event to rollout customized prepaid iTunes Music Store cards. These cards allow the holder to download a specific specific song, playlist or album.

Sample cards on Playlist show artist-specific cards offering single songs including Bedlam, Elvis Costello & the Imposters; I Predict a Riot, Kaiser Chiefs; An Honest Mistake, the bravery and an unreleased track, Dirty Harry by Gorillaz (iTMS links). The write up states that more than 200 acts appearing at SXSW have issued individually-branded cards.

Also, don't forget to take advantage of the SXSW 2005 Showcasing Artist mp3 library, which offers 2.6GB of "free" music. Also, if you're planning on attending the festival, today is the final day.

Editor's note: It's worth noting that these cards, which are described as being a little smaller than a credit card, would appear to be more environmental friendly than the promotional CDs usually handed out at the event. Is this the "wave of the future?"
