Another reason to dislike Celine

MacUser UK reports that an Apple dealer has complained to the Campaign for Digital Rights (CDR) simply inserting the latest Celine Dion CD -- A New Day Has come -- in a new iMac will cause the computer to become unusable.
The new CD from the Canadian-born pop diva includes copy protection that reportedly can damage a computer's firmware. If true, this latest incident would appear to confirm rumors that the technology, which is designed to keep buyers from playing or duplicating CDs using a computer, is actually destructive.
Mac User UK quotes the unidentified Mac dealer as saying that once the CD is inserted into a new iMac it cannot be removed and the machine cannot be restarted. Other new or soon-to-be-released titles -- Star Wars Episode II (soundtrack), Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and Destiny's Child -- also include this technology.
For additional information on so-called "copy protected" CDs and which artists' disks that likely include the potentially damaging technology, visit CDR's website.
