Apple, Quark team for promo

Apple, still the mother-of-all motherships, has teamed with Quark to offer the One publishing powerhouse. One great offer promotion. Under this "deal" those that buy a P'Book or P'Mac G5 and a full version of QuarkXPress 6 are eligible to get $300 back via a mail-in rebate.

Of course, both the Mac and Quark need to be on the same invoice. However, the real bugbear is the fact that you must buy from a reseller that's both Apple and Quark certified.

For those with a daring spirit, this promo runs until Jan 10 next year.

A 'Dear Quark' letter

That said, MacMerc is running a promotion of exactly the opposite flavor: it's free and the featured prize is a copy of Adobe InDesign. Here's a quote:

"Flying in the face of Apple's newly announced promotion, we at MacMerc.com are hosting a contest to help all you publishers out there break the cycle of abuse you have endured with QuarkXPress over the years.

"All you have to do is enter the contest and write a brief "Dear John" letter to Quark. Hurry, the contest has already started and it ends at 11:59pm PST on October 31, 2004."

And, the prizes are:
(1) copy of Adobe InDesign CS for Mac;
(1) copy of Total Training Quark to InDesign: Making the Switch;
(1) copy Total Training Complete Training for InDesign CS;
(1) copy of Scott Kelby's Adobe InDesign CS Killer Tips;
(1) year subscription to Mac Design Magazine.

Now, which one sounds more appealing to you? Apple's mail-in rebate or MacMerc's InDesign giveaway?
