iTunes/Pepsi promo ends today

Apple's joint digital music promotion with Pepsi, the Pepsi/iTunes Music Giveaway, is scheduled to end today. However, winning caps can still be redeemed through April 30 -- one month from now.

The event was announced last Fall with much fanfare on the same day that Apple rolled out iTunes for Windows. The promotion officially began on February 20 -- Super Bowl Sunday.

People nationwide have remarked on the slow and spotty roll out of the promotion with some regions/areas apparently not taking part. Further, only 20-ounce bottles of Pepsi and Sierra Mist carried the telltale yellow caps, which are a small part of the company's overall beverage product lines.

Editor's note: Me thinks this was a great idea that wasn't executed all that well. To be sure it was the first of its kind and similar promotions are likely given this one's "non-failure."

I believe the overall impact of the promotion was diluted by spotty/slow rollout. Moreover, although digital music is all the rage, those actually taking part represents a small subsegment of the overall music market.

Perhaps not entirely ready for prime time? What's your take?
