KernalThread.com, the personal love child of Amit Singh, carries the story of how he has installed and run 55 operating systems on his 17-inch PowerBook. Using the chewy Unix goodness of OS X, Virtual PC and an apparently rather large external FireWire hard disk, Mr Singh has ably demonstrated the now-legendary flexibility of Apple's top-of-the-line pro portable:

"I run a large number of operating systems on my PowerBook 17, both because I am fascinated by operating systems and environments, and also because a lot of my professional work is and has been in this area ... Some are there for nostalgia. Some are frivolous (consider EmacsOS) and maybe even ludicrous (consider "HanoiOS within VMware within Linux within Virtual PC within Mac OS X"). If you must have a number, well, there are screenshots from at least 55 (perhaps more) different systems. As mentioned earlier, please refer to the FAAQ for details."

The said same FAAQ also includes a wealth of information on just how Mr Singh was able to accomplish the installation of 55 OS'.

Editor's note: "Here's the crazy ones..." Gotta love the Unix heads.

How many OS' do you have installed on your Mac?
