Rumor: Apple readying 'new' iMacs?

Apple Insider and one our usual Taiwan sources report that Quanta, a long-time Apple OEM, has been awarded the contract to produce the next-gen iMac. Though no solid date for its arrival is available, sources indicate that Q2 is the most likely time period for the new models to arrive.

However, it's possible (though not likely) a burnished prosumer desktop could be announced at Macworld San Francisco.

Quanta currently manufactures PowerBooks and was the first OEM to make the "Luxo Jr" iMac.

Editor's note: What's next for the iMac? Could we see G5-powered models this Spring? At this point in time, it's anyone's guess.

What's your take?
