Think Secret: Benchmarks, screencaps, more

Quoting "a field source at the Worldwide Developers Conference" Think Secret's Nick de Plume has confirmed that the new PowerMac G5s are indeed running a special version of OS X, v10.2.7 or "Smeagol" as its known in the dungeons of 1 Infinite Loop, and that Apple's internal codename for the G5 is indeed "Neo." This latter item would seem to be a reference to the Matrix character played by Keanu Reaves (ie "so you're here to save the world. What do you say to that?").

"The G5's About This Mac dialog box labels the operating system as "10.2.7 (G5)," in a nod to Smeagol's special G5 support," states Nick. "The processors are listed as 'Dual 2 GHz Neo,' the latter being Apple's internal code name for the G5 processor."

Screen caps of these and other items confirm and flesh out previously known details about Apple's latest über computer. For example, Skidmarks GT benchmarks performed on-site at the WWDC show the G5's floating performance to be 2.7 times faster than a 1GHz G4.

Editor's note: So, the G5 is the CPU ("the one") that's going to save the world for Apple? I wonder if Redmond is preparing 25 million "Sentinals" ("One for everywhere man, woman and child [using a Macintosh]. That sounds like the thinking of a machine to me.")?

Don't tell me you're a believer now too?
