Rumor: 30" Cinema Display Coming?

MacWhispers claims that Apple is prepping a 30" Cinema Display, which supports 2400x1500 resolutions and "extremely high color saturation levels."

New fabrication technologies will be deployed for the manufacture of this super-sized display, the article says, utilizing "the QUXGA and QUXGAW panels marketed under the IBM brand". The monitor is expected to deliver 94 pixels per inch density.

The manufacturer is apparently ready to go and is merely awaiting the executive order from Apple to commence production of the unit.

Analysis: This might be an off-the-wall rumor, but I recall that 24 hours or so before MWSF this year that there were predictions of 12" and 17" PowerBook G4s. Most Apple watchers noddled sagely and put this straight into the trashcan. A 30-incher would be just the kind of product that Apple could seduce its Pro customers with. Plus, it might put some life into Power Mac sales. Once they've got their hands on QuarkXPress X, of course.
