Lombards Get ATI Rage Pro Support in OS X 10.2.4

James Denton, author of the hack for the 10.1.5 ATI Rage Pro found in fruity iMacs and Wallstreet and Lombard PowerBooks, has posted a note in MacNN's forums stating that the old video card has full support in OS X 10.2.4.

James says, "I can change resolutions to 800x600 and back to 1024x768 without any problems, and can also change from millions to thousands of colors without any problems. This is great news for those of us who have had to resort to patching the old extension and having various problems. I'm going to keep the patch on my website for those who are running 10.1.5."

Previously, changing resolutions would lock up a Lombard with the hack installed. James hasn't installed 10.2.4 yet, but copied the Rage Pro's kernel extension [board ID 51 0 0x11ed7000 0x1a000 0x19000 com.apple.ATIRagePro (2.1.2)] onto his Lombard running 10.2.3.

I don't run Jaguar, but I might give this a try on 10.1.5 by copying this into the kext. Or, hopefully, James will post a modified version of the kext somewhere, although the mod may require Jag.

James' homepage at .mac doesn't seem to exist, so if he comes by, or anyone knows his current web address or email, drop us a line.
