Apple Pulls IP Over FireWire Page

Apple appears to have removed its page at Apple Developer Connection detailing IP Over FireWire, which it posted a few days ago.

The company has not provided any explanation as yet as to why the page has been either removed or moved. The link above is currently dead.

The IP over FireWire Preview provided a kernel extension, which supported the use of a range of networking protocols over the FireWire port. Included in the Preview was support for Rendezvous, as well as AFP, HTTP, FTP and SSH.

Analysis: We hope this doesn't turn out to be like the BlueTooth/D-Link fiasco, where customers were told their orders were cancelled due to hardware shortages. This is a different kettle of fish, of course, as it comes from Apple itself. Apple may have discovered a serious bug in the Preview. Keep watching: it may reappear in a few hours.
