Cook, also a Nike Director, is known to wear the fitness-focused Fuel Band. The executive has praised the product. "I think Nike did a really great job with this," he said at AllThingsD's D11 conference. "The [wearables] that do more than one thing... aren't great," he added. As a company that prides itself on complete, integrated experiences, the smart watch market is one that Apple likely believes it could dominate by way of iPhone and iPad-like innovation.


Mark Gurman has an expansive piece at 9 to 5 Mac about what's presumed to be Apple's next product segment. It will be interesting to see this play out because the "iWatch" may only resemble conventional watches just by the fact its worn on the arm. Public comments about the fuel band, and also Cook's reported interested in fitness, seem to indicate the device will be health-related more than perhaps keeping time. Also this may be Apple's most fashion-oriented device. And of course, tight integration with iOS would be a given.
