Sonnet updates SATA PCIe SSD cards for Mac Pro booting

Sonnet announced new support for its Tempo SSD and Tempo SSD Pro PCIe storage solutions for Mac Pro workstations. Now 2008 and later Mac Pros can boot directly from the PCIe storage cards. Previously Macs could access the Tempo cards and its storage, but not as boot drives, apparently.

The Tempo SSD are allow for off-the-shelf 2.5-inch SSD to mount on the PCIe card, which then can be housed inside the computer. The cards are 6 Gb/sec performance, which makes for a nice upgrade on Mac Pros limited to 3Gb SATA architecture. Also the cards free up internal drive bays for additional storage.

The difference between the Tempo SSD and Tempo SSD Pro is a single and dual card design. The Pro can also RAID together two SSD drives on a single card. MSRP is $149.95 and $299.95, respectively. Users then need to provide their own SSD.
