QuarkXPress 6.0 May Be Released

MacUser UK reports that Quark may deliver XPress 6.0 "As early as March", according to an interview conducted by MacUser with Jürgen Kurz, Quark director of product management.

In the interview, Kurz canvasses a range of issues, including criticism of Quark for delays in delibering an OS X version of XPress. As IGM has reported previously, XPress 6.0 will run on OS X only, not OS 9.

Kurz also takes a joking swipe at CoreDraw when talking about getting Quark right. On a more serious note, he states categorically that Apple is not paying any of XPress 6.0's development costs. Kurz also tries to put to rest the rumor that Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Quark CEO Fred Ebrahimi had a major falling out over delays to the X versiion of Quark.

He also says that "XPress 5 runs in Classic really well", although he believes Apple's decision to make Macs boot up only in OS X from January could alienate some customers.

MacUser will publish the second part of the interview shortly, where Kurz addresses the challenge from InDesign, among other topics.
