Sprint adjusting data plans ahead of pending iPhone launch

SprintFeed, via MacRumors, is reporting on changes to Sprint's broadband data plans. The company is heavily advertising the fact it offers unrestricted, unlimited mobile data, while other major U.S. carriers do not. While phone data plans will remain unlimited, according the SprintFeed, Sprint is planning to clamp down on hotspot bandwidth. The new plan would restrict phones with a modem plan to 5 GB/mo. This would be where customers add the option to turn their phone into a mobile hotspot for $29.99 a month.

It's been rumored and speculated that Sprint may add on the iPhone upon launch. It uses a CDMA network similar to Verizon. These data plan changes are set to activate around the time the iPhone 5 is expected to launch.

So, a couple interesting points here. First the stars may be aligning for a Sprint iPhone, and also users may have option for truly unlimited data. At least for now and at least without using the mobile hotspot feature. Other carriers too have offered unlimited on iPhones, either with a hard or soft cap, to only introduce tiers later down the road.
