Recently Other World Computing announced a Multi-Mount system designed to utilize unused or unneeded bays in Apple's tower computers. The company released mounting systems in a variety of configurations for Apple's Mac Pro, PowerMac G5, and some PowerMac G4s. Essentially all of Apple's towers since 1999. The system allows users to use an empty 3.5-inch hard drive bay for a 2.5-inch HDD or SDD drive. Other mounts add dual 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives to a 5.25 bay, such as an open CD/DVD or perhaps yanking a optical drive that's rarely used. Using a 5.25 bay, users can also mix and match, placing for example a single 3.5-inch drive with two 2.5-inch drives. “The beauty of Multi-Mount, in addition to its blue powder coated finish, is the drive configuration flexibility it offers to Mac Pro and Power Mac users,” said Larry O’Connor, Founder and CEO, Other World Computing. “From adding more capacity, faster boot and app load performance, and even redundancy via a RAID setup, Multi-Mount is a complete hardware solution for custom tailoring any Mac tower’s internal storage to meet individual needs.” Most kits come with the required cables for connecting the drives, however, if you don't have enough SATA ports, you may need to pick up a SATA PCI card. Prices range from $17.99 up to $49.99, depending on configuration. OWC Multi-Mount
