Fast and furious -- ATT reportedly sold out of iPhone 4

Apple and AT&T haven't had a banner day customer service wise, but that may be a result of big pre-orders for the iPhone 4. All day customers have been jockeying for a chance to pre-order the iPhone online and in stores. Before the day is complete, Boy Genius is reporting that AT&T has sold out.

The site simply states that its sources say by 4:30 EDT the mobile carrier sold its launch-day allotment of phones. Similar thing happened last year, however, it took a few days, not hours. BGR says new orders are expected to arrive between June 25th and July 5th.

For those still fighting, reserving a phone for an Apple Store pick up seems to be working well later in the day. Shoppers can use both the Apple Store and iOS app. Frequently attempts to pre-order will spit shoppers out to the option for pickup. A reservation is a basically a soft guarantee of a phone for launch day, although inventory is still first-come first-serve at the stores.

For those trying online, the system does work, but you have to be persistent. Hopefully things will loosen up soon.
