Apple promises software fix for iPad WiFi connection issues

If you're among those affected with WiFi connection issues, take comfort as a real fix appears to be on the way.

The iPad has been reported to have a few WiFi issues. The most annoying is the device has difficulty in maintaining its connection to an access point. Apple acknowledges this issue and has offered a few workarounds. Some are common sense like making sure your router software is current, messing with your security settings, and try forcing to renew your IP address. Interestingly a seemingly unrelated tweak of the iPad's brightness setting might help.

All these tips can be seen on Apple's support document iPad: Issues connecting to Wi-Fi networks The same document indicated that "Apple will also address remaining Wi-Fi connectivity issues with a future iPad software update." This note appears to be a recent development posted in an update last week.

A second apparent issue involves weak signal where signal should be of sufficient strength. The document iPad: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections gives a number of tips to improve signal qualify, but does not promise a similar update. One item though seems to suggest the iPad may actually be getting better signal than its indicator represents. We've witness this often and have learned to just ignore the WiFi indicator. Perhaps a tweak of the status indicator will have ease minds of iPad users.
