Apple now accepting iPad apps from developers

Company sends notice to developers that they can start submitting apps, and what's needed to hit the iPad launch weekend.

If you're a developer working on an iPad app, it could be big to be on the iPad app store for the device's launch. Many thousands of customers will be anxious to check out apps built for the iPad, making for a potential gold rush. Apple told developers Friday that if they want to be up and running for the iPad launch in two weeks, they'll need to get their apps submitted by March 27th. Once submitted, Apple will give initial feedback on the app and presumably what needs to be done if anything to be approved for April 3rd.

Apple says developers must use the current iPhone Software Development Kit 3.2 beta 5. One hitch is that most developers have not tested their apps on an actual iPad. Instead developers used a simulator in the SDK, which in rush to market could potentially cause a few wrinkles for app approval and initial iPad apps.

Even though iPad users may be keen on getting built-for iPad apps, standard iPhone OS apps will scale up for the iPad size.
