Apple Thursday made some major changes to its tiered developer program, The Unofficial Apple Weblog reports. The site notes that Apple has eliminated Premier, Select and Student memberships with a single $99 level. Developers will reportedly get access to Mac OS X pre-released software, developer videos, the developer forums, and technical support. Missing are hardware discounts and complementary tickets to WWDC for premiere membership. Previous members who had access to those perks will continue so until the end of the year. The move appears to simplify the system and make it similar to the iPhone developer program. While the program pricing likely didn't deter commercial developers, but many spark interest among hobbyists looking to tinker and perhaps become one of the many independent application authors. At the minimum, members will get to experience pre-released versions of Mac OS X on a test system, or if bold their primary Mac.
