Google Voice comes to iPhone, via Web app

No need to re-hash all the recent unpleasantness, but Google Voice is now available on the iPhone. Just not as a standard iPhone app.

Google Tuesday launched a HTML5 version of its Voice service. The Web version is compatible with the iPhone and Palm Pre. The service has the features of an app and promises to also give an app experience. Voicemail messages are available transcribed as a SMS text message. You can send SMS messages and make phone calls also from the browser. Calls placed via Google Voice are routed through Google's system instead of AT&T.

Google Voice is currently available as invite only. If you don't have an account, you'll have to request an invite and wait for more spots to open. Google Voice Web app requires iPhone OS 3.0 or later and is expected to be available later today.
