AT&T offers early upgrades to some iPhone 3G customers
June 17th 2009

AT&T announced a special deal for “high value” iPhone 3G customers

Wednesday AT&T announced a special one-time plan to assist some iPhone 3G customers in upgrading to an iPhone 3G S at the fully subsidized rates. Those rates are $199 and $299 for the 16 GB and 32 GB iPhones. Previously, these customers would need to pay an additional $200 to upgrade because they were midway or less into their two year contract.

OK, now comes the fine print. If you are eligible to upgrade to a new iPhone in July, August, or September, AT&T is allowing you to upgrade beginning June 18 to an iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S. Eligibility will depends on a few factors starting with when your contract was originally signed. If you bought on iDay last year, and considered a high value customer, you may be eligible. AT&T indicates customers who spend more than $99 per line are eligible for upgrades between 12 and 18 months, so your monthly bill will likely be key.

Furthermore, if you are eligible but already paid an early upgrade fee, you should expect a refund from either Apple or AT&T.

To find out if you are eligible, you can check AT&T’s iPhone Website, or text *NEW# or *639#.
